Beaches & Pools

Ahhh, the beach or the pool!  So many choices. Any of the hotels/motels/resorts you might choose to stay at during your visit will inevitably have a pool.  Pools are awesome and a must have for a visit to South Florida.  The pool at your location can tell you a lot about the place you pick to make your home base while visiting us down here. It MUST be crystal clear and invigoratingly cool.  However, sometimes the air is just SO Hot that pools and the Ocean are a Bathtub! Those sweet little tide pools that you can catch in the summer time, those—bring your little beach chair down to the waters edge and let the ripples tickle your ankles… sippin’ on a cool fizzy drink…watch the sun goin’ down in the west until the palm trees block your view, glassy water behind you.  Three of my favorite spots for just that!

  • Blowing Rocks Beach in Jupiter- Drive north on US1 to Jupiter and then east at the Lighthouse.  From here you can choose any spot that is to your liking, whether that be on the Intracoastal side or the beach side.  The waves at high tide crash up onto the reef and blow way up into the air.  Hence the name! Catch low tide and you can walk along the rocks to discover all sorts of little creatures trapped in the tide pools.
  • The Beach inside John D. McArthur State Park- (10900 Jack Nicklaus Dr. NPB, Fl 33408)  There is admission into the park but it is well worth the $2.- per person to get in. Once inside, aside from the free tram that carries you over the lagoon to the pristine beach, you also have access to kayak rentals, a launch to bring your own, a small amphitheater with wildlife shows and a gift shop. For info call 561-624-6950
  • The Burns Road Community Center- (4404 Burns Rd.  Palm Beach Gardens) has a sparkling pool for old and young.  They offer a great little water park area for the kids along with a large playground just outside the pool enclosure.  There is an entrance fee for members/non-members but again, well worth the price on a steamy day!  If you’re feeling energetic there is a walking trail around the perimeter of the grounds. For info call 561-630-1100.

Water is a way of life for us here in South Florida.  We either work by/on it or we play in it.  It’s a must have, a necessity.
