HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE
Pack up your lounge chairs and your favorite refreshments and head for the closest waterway access point. It’s time for our yearly Holiday Boat Parade. All along the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway thousands of people will enjoy the string of boats and yachts decorated in sparkling holiday regalia. They will make their way north from North Lake Blvd. up to the Jupiter area and back.
From small fishing boats to mega yachts, all will be decorated with sparkling lights, Santa and his elves, reindeer and snowmen. Many will be blaring Holiday tunes over their speaker systems for all to sing along. To culminate the festivities there will be a fabulous firework display staged on several barges set up strategically along the way.
It’s quite a sight to behold! For those of us lucky enough to have a dinner reservation at one of the waterfront restaurants along the way you can enjoy some delicious food and drinks as the parade passes through. Some favorite spots are http://The Waterway Cafe, http://Seasons 52 and http://Bricktops Restaurant. These are all perfectly located underneath the PGA Bridge on PGA Blvd. The parade always happens on the first Saturday of December, this year being Dec. 1, 2018. The boats begin their journey at Northlake Blvd. and head north to Jupiter. Here they will turn around and make the trip back to their origin. At PGA Blvd. you are likely to start seeing boats somewhere around 6-6:30 pm.
I like to use PGA Blvd. as my vantage point because it’s right around the corner from my home. However, there are many spots along the route to set up camp for a couple of hours, enjoy the fresh cool night air, spend some time with friends and family and experience one of our favorite events of the holiday season. On the east side of the water Juno Park is a great place to hunker down. It’s free, there is a playground for the kids and easily accessible. Come early though to find your spot because it’s a popular event and you’ll want to get as close to the water as possible.
Most noteworthy, The annual “Toys for Tots” drive will have a presence during the parade as well. If you bring an unwrapped toy to donate they will happily pull over to your area to collect your donation. For more information on this check out http://palmbeachboatparade.com/toys-for-tots/. By giving a new unwrapped toy you’ll be sure to make a child very happy. This is what Christmas is all about after all. The Marine Reserves have been in partnership with the Boat Parade for 19 years and are also donating to http://Littlesmiles.org/events/this year. I think it’s wonderful and hope everyone will give generously for those not as fortunate as the rest of us.
