I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news or a debbie downer but ……

Hotel accommodations here in my area, South Florida, Palm Beach County to be more specific, have gone into the stratosphere, out of reach for the average visitor coming for just a few days or the week. You can expect rates to almost double from October to April or around Easter time, whenever that may fall.  There are some deals to be had during the summer. Sometimes us locals can catch a deal for a room on the beach when out of season, May through September. Even those are now few and far between since the mad exodus to Florida in the last two years. I highly recommend checking into Airbnb. I’m sure most you already know about that. I just think you’ll find a much more cost effective accommodation, possibly with a kitchen for some additional savings on meals. 

For those of you coming for a month or three the choices are a bit more varied and affordable. Renters like people to stay a little longer and are willing to reflect that in the price. Less money they have to spend on cleaning services between tenants. If you absolutely have your heart set on a room on the beach, I completely understand. There’s nothing quite like listening to the soft lull of the waves crashing on the sand to relax your mind and feed the soul.  It is here! It just entails some diligent research, patience, good timing and luck! Also, we’ll be looking out for the ever elusive ocean view/beach front properties willing to make a deal. Make sure to check in once in a while. With a little luck we will find something together and make it happen.  

Restaurant A La Cart

Recently came across a gem of Old Florida. That is actually the name of the restaurant on Indiantown Rd in Jupiter. “Old Florida” reminded me of just that. It felt a little like I had stepped back in time a few years, having been in Florida now for the better part of fifty years.  The help was very friendly with smiles on their faces, like they actually enjoyed the job.  Even though it was quite busy, the service was quick and accommodating. There is a lovely outdoor seating area without all the noise and bustle from the surrounding plaza. Suddenly there were families, I mean groups of adults, with children of all sizes.  The place is very family friendly. The menu was simple fare, with still reasonable prices and pretty quick delivery.  Everything was tasty and just as described.  If you’re looking for a nice laid back outing for a bite to eat, do yourself a favor and check this place.  I think you will be quite pleased with the outcome. “Old Florida” on Indiantown rd, Jupiter.
