OKTOBERFEST CELEBRATION 2018

“EINS, ZWEI, GSOFFA”

It’s time once again to dust off your beersteins, lederhosen and dirndl for this year’s festival of festivals, the annual Oktoberfest at the German American Club in Lake Worth.  If you’re looking for some family fun or adult time, make your way down to Lantana Road in Lake Worth and head west to 5111 Lantana road. It’s the closest thing to the original German Beer Festival,  featuring authentic German Food and the ever so potent German Beer.  Along with authentic German Band Music and Dancing you’ll find a mini carnival for kids and adults alike. It gets crowded folks!

Parking is provided across the street from the festival grounds but it will cost you $15.  There are three alternate parking locations to catch a trolley to deliver you to the venue. The shuttle service is free and could prove a tremendous time saver if you’re not into fighting traffic to get in and out of the Club area.  Indian Pines Elementary School is just west of the Festival area @6000 Oak Royal Drive for those of you coming from Wellington or other areas west of town. Diamond View Elementary School @5300 Haverhill Road and Tradewinds Middle School @5090 Haverhill Road would be a better option for those of you coming from in town. These two schools are just north of Lantana Road and only a very short shuttle ride. No ride or transportation? Make sure you check out my post RIDING THE RAILS IN SOUTH FLORIDA!

Tickets are $10 and a minimal processing fee of $1.25 if bought online at http://www.oktoberfestflorida.com.  This will save you time from standing in line and gets you into the express entrance.  Doors are open from 5pm-11pm on Friday, noon – 11pm on Saturday and noon – 8pm on Sunday.

Having been born in Germany I’ve had the privilege of attending both the big daddy festival in Munich, where it started and also in many other locations around the country.  Although not many compare to the original in Munich, there is fun, yummy food and OOmmppaaaa music at each one. And the Beer, oohh the Beer. German beer packs quite a punch compared to what we buy here in the US. So please beware and drink responsibly.

THE PRINCE AND HIS BRIDE

Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria staged the very first Oktoberfest in 1810. He did this in celebration of his wedding to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.  He invited all the members of the upper echelon to eat drink and be merry for five days.  There were shooting competitions, racing, parades as well as eating and drinking to their hearts content. Everyone had such a great time during the festival,  it was decided that this party would be repeated every year with the exception of several years during war times.  This year marks the 185th anniversary of the official Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.

So come on down and enjoy one of history’s biggest parties.
